Spanish Language Immersion Tips

6 Language Immersion Tips

In this video, we are looking at Spanish language immersion tips. We are taking Maria’s experience living in the States and Cody’s experience living in Colombia for two years and giving you the best ways to get the most out of your language immersion. We have made the mistakes so you don’t have too. Cody has done language immersions in Colombia for two years and he has learned first hand the wrong things to do. With these tips, you will be able to get the most out of your trip, money, and experience in language immersion.  It says these are Spanish language immersion tips but these tips will be good for any kind of language immersion.

Tip #1  Don’t be scared

The first tip is to not be afraid. Being scared to speak will keep you from getting the most out of your learning experience. Also, you are here to speak so don’t be afraid to do so.

Tip #2  Mess Up

Our second tip goes alongside the last one and that is not to worry about messing up. You are learning the language so do not expect to speak perfectly. As long as you speak the language you are going to learn and get the most out of your immersion. Don’t let the worry of messing up keep you from opening your mouth.

Tip #3  Listen

The third tip is to listen! You are in another country and surrounded by the language you are wanting to learn. Everything is a learning experience. Make sure to practice active listening to get the most out of the language that surrounds you.

Tip #4  Ask Questions

Number four is to ask questions. Don’t worry if you don’t know something and ask questions to figure out the words you need. Look up questions like “how do you say this”, “what is that”, or “what is this”. Use these questions to give yourself the ability to learn new things and expand your grasp on the language.

Tip #5  Mother Tounge

Our next tip is to avoid your language. When Cody was living in Colombia for two years he spoke English all the time. He had friends that spoke English and worked as an English teacher. So his whole world in Colombia had nothing to do with Spanish. If you are going to another country make sure to leave your language at home and focus on what you are there to do. You can speak your language when you go back home after you finish your language immersion.

Tip #6 Breaks

The last tip is to take breaks! This one is important because you do not want to burn yourself out. Learning a language can hurt your head and it is a lot of work. So make sure to reward yourself with little breaks or rewards for doing a good job.
