Answering: ¿Cómo estás? or “how are you?” is an important thing to know when learning Spanish. Not only because it is one of the most common questions but because is also a greeting. There are basic and common ways to answer to this question: Bien (If you are good), mas o menos (so so), or mal (if you’re not having the best of days).


As you probably know right now, Spanish is all about conjugating verbs, so get ready to learn the conjugation of verbs that Spanish speakers use the most in this language: “estar” and “tener”. You will need to use these two to express how you feel in that moment.

As you can see, it is not that hard to find alternatives to answering the question ¿Cómo estás?. Try and mix things up next time someone asks you how you are doing. Also, remember it is very nice and polite to ask the same question back to the speaker. If you don’t want to sound repetitive, you can ask :¿Y tu? which is the informal way to ask “how about you?. If you want to be formal, ask: ¿Y  usted?.


Also something very important to remember: Please do not use the expression “asi asi”. Some people think this is the way to say so so in Spanish, but the awful truth is that nobody says this as a way to respond anything. So, be careful.
