Big Numbers Practice

Big Numbers in Spanish

In this video, we are practicing big numbers in Spanish.  We are really not going to focus on how to pronounce the big number but instead focus on practicing them.  If you need a refresher on how to use and say big numbers in Spanish check out this video.

When you are using big numbers you are probably going to use them to talk about weight, distance, or height.  Because of that let’s take a look at some of the vocabulary you will hear in the video related to that.

Vocabulary

  • La distancia – Distance
  • Un kilo – A kilo
  • Una libra- A pound
  • Un kilómetro – A kilometer
  • Una milla – A mile
  • Un pie – A foot
  • el peso – Weight
  • La altura – Height
  • Un metro – A meter
  • La población – Population

Now that you know the vocabulary let’s look at the activity.  Maria is going to give you some words and you are going to need to make a question out of them.  For this video, we are going to do that with “Cuál”.  Now we are going to take some of our new vocabulary and use Cuál to make a question.  It would look something like this…

Questions

  • ¿Cuál es la distancia de _____? – (What’s the distance _____?)
  • ¿Cuál es el peso de _____? – (What’s the weight_____?)
  • ¿Cuál es la altura de _____? – (What’s the height_____?)

So when Maria gives us some words to make a question out of like “población and New York City”.  You would make your question like this…

¿Cuál es la población de New York City?

After you come up with your question Maria is then going to tell you the big number in Spanish.  She will repeat it two times and your task is to write it down in number form.  Keep in mind that in Spanish they do not use a comma to separate our their big number, just a single space is used.
