Describing a room can be important not only if you are a real-estate agent or when you’re selling your house. It also helps people like friends and family, picture the places you visit on your travel adventures.
When you describe a room in a house or a place in the city, you will need to use two important elements: verbs (or actions) and adjectives (to describe).
The main verbs you will use are: Ser, estar, and tener. The following is the conjugation of these three verbs but, since we are talking about a place, you should use the conjugation of the third person (he/she /formal you. It also works for animals or things).
Describing using questions.
Check out this list of questions and answers you need when describing a place. Some important questions you should learn to ask about the description of a place are:
¿Qué tiene? To ask what the place has. (What does it have?)
To answer this question, use TENER + ROOMS. For instance:
Mi casa tiene dos habitaciones, dos baños, una sala, un comedor, un estudio, una cocina y un balcón.
¿Dónde está? To ask about its location (Where is it?)
To answer this question use ESTÁ + EN + LOCATION. Example:
Está en México; está en la capital, en la calle principal, en el norte. You can also use prepositions: Está al frente del supermercado, al lado de la oficina, detrás de la escuela.
¿Cómo es? To ask about its appearance (What does it look like?)
To answer this question, use ES + ADJECTIVE. Like this:
Es bonito, grande, lujoso, práctico, barato, moderno, etc.
