Can Memes Teach You Spanish?
Well, not exactly but humor is a big part of learning a language that most people never think about. You can understand vocabulary, grammar structure, and still not get a joke. Why is that? Well, the context, maybe the words used have a double meaning, but it also has a lot to do with culture. Understanding humor in Spanish is really hard because it is not your native tongue. So you are probably not up to date on everything that is going on in the language. What do I mean by this? Things like the latest news, current events, gossip, and things like that. Most of us Spanish learners are getting all that information in our own language so that we can better understand it.
What’s the point?
The point is there is more to a language than grammar rules. Behind every language is a culture. Learning the language is only a part of the greater picture. To truly understand a language you need to know the people and how they use it and humor is a great place to start.
Take Spanish memes (in this case), for example. Simple. Short, yet not that easy to get even for intermediate-advanced students. In this video, I’ll walk you through these memes and try to explain why they are funny. Well, the truth is these memes are not as funny as the ones in the first video we did on this. You can watch that video here.
That said this video still has some really great information in it and I’m sure you will still get a laugh out of it because we had a good time making it.
