Giving Instructions in Spanish

To give instructions in Spanish, you can be formal or informal. In the video below, you will find an informal, friendly way to give instructions. Your task will be to complete it with the verb you hear. Giving instructions in Spanish is very simple. This is also a good introduction to one of the topics Spanish learners struggle the most with: The subjunctive.

The simplest way to explain the informal imperative in Spanish is:

  1. Take the regular verb of your choice. (atrapar – To cath)
  2. Conjugate it for “él” or “ella”: (atrapa)
  3. Give the instruction: Max: ¡atrapa la pelota!

Some irregular verbs will be different. In this case, remember:

  • Hacer – Haz
  • Ir – Ve
  • Poner – Pon
  • Tener – Ten
  • Salir – Sal
  • Venir – Ven
  • Decir – Di
