Spanish Spelling Test | Do you know how to spell in Spanish?

Spelling in Spanish

In this video, we are going to have a spelling quiz in Spanish. This is something that Cody struggles with both in Spanish and in English. Maria says that it is easier to spell in Spanish because all the letters make a sound so it is easy to figure out. We will put this theory to the test with this spelling quiz in Spanish. Maria will say a word three times and Cody and you will try to see if you can spell the word correctly.

Before you get started here is some things to keep in mind about how letters sound in Spanish.

The C and the G which sound like (Ce) and (He) in Spanish can change sounds depending on the letters they are combined with.

Let’s start with the letter C. When combined with the letters below the letter C will have a (K) sound.
Ca Co Cu

OK well, what about Ce and Ci will they sound the same with a (K) sound? The answer is no and in order to get the sound, you would have to use a Q and U. So it would look like this.
Que and Qui

But when the letter C is combined with E and I it will have an (S) sound.
Ce Ci

So it will go like this. The letter C with a (K) sound
Ca, Que, Qui, Co, Cu

The letter C with an (S) sound.
Ce, Ci

The letter G will be similar to how the letter C was.
When combined with the letters below the letter G will have a (G) sound.
Ga Go Gu

OK well, what about Ge and Gi will they sound the same with a (G) sound? The answer is no and in order to get the sound, you would have to use a U between the G and the E or I. So it would look like this.
Gue and Gui

But when the letter G is combined with E and I it will have an (H) sound.
Ge Gi

So it will go like this. The letter G with a (G) sound
Ga, Gue, Gui, Go, Gu

The letter G with an (H) sound.
Ge, Gi

Also, remember to look out for these two that sound the same CI and SI. There is really no way to know cause they sound the same at least in Latin America. You will just have to read the word and remember. In Spain, these two letter combinations will sound different.

So how did you do? Did you spell in Spanish better than Cody?
